About the PMPN Student Gallery

The Portland Metro Photographic News Student Gallery is a virtual Art Gallery for the exhibition and celebration of the talent, creativity and art of Oregon and Washington's exceptional high school and college students of photography. These gifted students represent tomorrow's photographic artists whose visions will shape the future of photography as an art and profession.

This Gallery is a cultural and educational community service of the Portland Metro Photographic News. Instructors and students of photography are encouraged to contact PMPN for additional exhibition information.

University of Portland Student Competition & Exhibit


The Portland Metro Photographic News inaugural Student Gallery exhibit is a presentation of winning images from the recently completed student competition at the University of Portland. Patricia Bognar, instructor of photography and Gallery Curator at UP, has assembled these photographs that represent this semester's work by students of:
  • Introduction to B&W Photography (a basic beginning darkroom course)
  • Introduction to Color Photography
  • Photography II (advanced darkroom work including: theme work, printing on fiber papers and toning, darkroom processes of multiple exposures, pushing/pulling, paper negatives, solarization, etc.
  • Creative Photography (alternate processes like pinholes, holgas, plastic panorama cameras, cyanotypes, Polaroid image and emulsion transfers, etc.)
A course in digital photography is also offered, but none of this year's digital entries were selected for awards.

This year's student competition work fell into four categories.
  • Portrait
  • Landscape
  • Artist's Choice
  • Best of Show
